Thursday thoughts: {hip opener class = getting rid of the negative}

You know you have a summer morning on your hands when you wake up to crazy rain & thundering. Makes for the perfect setting to fall back to sleep too… Which I did 🙂

We just got back from a nice visit with my mama, sister & O! I love having coffee dates with the family. We looked over old photos, talked more about our trip to Maine next week & had some laughs with little O.

That hat kills me… hilarious.

{Can’t have a coffee date without some sweets}

Let’s talk some yoga ….

I fell in l.o.v.e. with yoga about a year ago. It’s something that changed me completely. I did however fall of the wagon for a little while just because life & scheduling got in the way. {I need change of scenery so I personally like to go to the studio} Finally yesterday I made an appearance back at the studio.

Walking out of a kick ass class is so fleeting. Last night I knew I was going to be in for a “little treat”.  I had over heard a few others saying that after Monday’s class they were feeling some “side effects” So I knew that after class with hip work I would be feeling some of the effects.

Opening your hips is super important. This where you store a lot of thoughts and emotions. Some people may have a release during class and also after. You should embrace these breakthrough moments that ultimately will lead you closer to union of mind.

My body felt so sore and tight before entering class… and after my body felt immediately better. But my mind felt a little weird. So if you’ve taken a hip opening class you know.  Getting rid of the negative is so important. Because in yoga there is so much joy.

c826c8511d47a34bdee5e36e769f1843We did a lot of pigeon pose, holding lunges & lizard. HURT SO GOOD.

This class just gave me a little reminder that you can’t hold onto stuff, gotta constantly being giving up the stuff that weighs you down. Repeating to yourself you are LOVE {as kate says :)}

Nothing is better than feeling renewed. I hope that I am able to continue & keep getting to yoga at least once a week.

Alrighty friends, quick-lunch & then off to work. Have a happy Thursday<3
happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace & gratitude.

Have you ever taken a hip opening class? Did you feel the effects?

Thursday Thoughts: Running thoughts

Yesterday I took part in National Running Day. It was too nice of a day not too! I set out on a run around 645 pm and the weather could have not been more perfect. The run reminded me why I need to keep up with running more and enjoy that time for myself on the road to think, reflect and just have that time in my head and get lost in the music. I am not the biggest fan of the dreadmill, so when the weather is pristine and the music is blaring that’s when I feel like I can come alive! I am defiantly going to keep at it. I know that not everyday is going to be a perfect running day but yesterday was a good reminder as to why it’s so good to get my booty OUTSIDE! vs inside.

1- It is soooooo much easier to run outside than inside

Nothing like the open road : )

Nothing like the open road : )

2- My thoughts are so much clearer & freer – if that makes sense? – usually I’m cursing myself to finish on the treadmill

3- Change of scenery makes time go by fast

4- Music sounds more crisp + more vibrant!

5- When I run outdoors it makes me want to run more & add onto my past mileage.

6- Hitting the pavement defiantly has been leaving the top of my feet sore. No pain no gain 🙂

I have never been a huge runner. In high school I did the relay team but I really would love to someday do a marathon. It’s always always always in the back of my mind. {bucket list} 😉

How do you feel about treadmills? Are they easy for you to hop on and get moving?

Can you run outdoors in any weather condition?

Thursday Thoughts: Breakfast talk

Hi there! I’ve been super busy with wrapping up the end of the semester and starting to get finals stuff underway… But one thing that keeps me going is breakfast. A nice hearty breakfast throughout my busy days.

I was never the biggest breakfast eater growing up, my sisters both always loved eggs, toast, bacon.. the whole nine yards. I usually skipped out and headed off to school. Today, I don’t miss out. Between longs at school and nights at the restaurant- I must eat a good breakfast.

We’ve heard this countless times. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It truly is!

> Boots energy
> A good breakfast  = metabolism booster
> Lower bad cholesterol
> Can increase your weight loss goals / or maintain*

I realized how much my love for breakfast has changed drastically and the amount of effort I put into my meals.
The other day I ran into Wawa to grab a coffee and snack. Snack is the keyword. I usually grab fruit, bar, nuts, etc. I chose this bar in particular:

On the bar I got it said MEAL replacement. I remember that over a year ago, this plus coffee would have been my breakfast. And then be a starvin marvin all day. It was such a realization moment. I continued driving in the car with my snack! 😉

Today breakfast is exciting, versatile, yummy and even portable! Breakfast does not need to come in a form of a bar.

^^Here’s just an example^^
1- My stable item for school breakfasts. steel cut oats, tipped with fruit {mixed in PB, chia seeds, and flax}
2- A relaxing breakfast outside with a mix of all the right things! omelet, blue berry bagel + pb, plus fruit.
3 & 4 are some weekend breakfasts.. which could be  waffels, pancakes, or anything that catches my eye on brunch menus!

Every one of my breakfast usually have a protein + healthy fat + fruit = all day fuel 🙂

I think my focus changed once I started to not feel so great, was exhausted and was just eating because I thought that’s what I was supposed to be doing {eating random foods to fill hunger} After reading a lot, discovering blogs, trying ALL different types of breakfast I finally understood WHY IT IS the most important meal of the day. Not only is it important but also now my favorite {besides dessert of course} 😉

Yesterdays breakfast was OIAJ <— why didn’t  I do this sooner!?!?!
0All you need is…an empty pb jar {semi empty, you want your oats to soak to the good stuff ;-)}
& 1/2 cup Oats!
Adds in of choice:
Flax – chia – coconut shreds – extra pb – fruit – honey : Dress it up however you want!
Place in the fridge over night/ or eat warm.

Other examples of great breakfast choices:
> Yogurt parfait
> Smoothie {Green breakfast smoothie found @ the sparkle }
> Toast w/ nut butter + banana
> The famous English muffin with egg cheese + jelly! Julie is very famous for this bad boy.

My stomach is now growling for a nice breakfast before I do more studying pinterest. Enjoy your Thursday friends! xoxo
