Summer makeup essentials ’13

Last Friday marked the start of summer.
Summer time {to me} is all about au natural, glows & sun kissed skin.
Like every season, I switch up my beauty products.
Here’s my top summer MUST HAVE items.

1- Garnier BB cream: I love this because the new one has SPF 20 & just adding this to my face in the morning
gives it that natural dewy glow & coverage.

2-Yes To Carrots lotion. I love their products & all ingredients in it. I used to breakout a lot more when using other products,
so far this is a winner.IMG_38483- Jergens lotion this defiantly helps add a little color to my face since I use SPF on my face.

4-Smashbox lip gloss. It’s a light airy pink color & looks great during the summer. {color = pout}

5-Laura Gellar {another all time favorite} in blush and glow. perfect amount of color and highlighter.

6- Blue eyeliner! I never thought I would use blue, but it makes such a big difference while highlighting the color in my eyes.
plus its fun!

What’s one of your summer must haves?!

HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE 😀

Vitamin E … the warrior vitamin.

Lately I’ve been all about trying more holistic approaches on things. Nothing to crazy,
but trying things out for my skin. I recently shared the >> benefits of coconut oil <<… now how about Vitamin E.

\ \ vitamin e :  a fat-soluble vitamin that is essential for normal reproduction; an important antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals in the body.

I have been using Trader Joes VIT E oil for a few weeks & I personally think I see day-to-day differences. Between this & coco oil my skin is a lot more pimple free, smoother & scars seem to be fading. I think that having healthy skin is very important.  I don’t know much about make up, so having nice skin is something I am trying to take MORE pride in.

Here are some benefits of using the oil:

  • erase scaring
  • erase pregnancy stretch marks
  • treat a minor sunburn
  • great for wrinkles <– never to early to start taking care of them 😉

Benefits of vitamin E overall:

  • As an antioxidant with a powerful punch.. vitamin E helps prevent cancer, heart disease, strokes, cataracts and possibly some of the signs of aging <– slather it on your face : )
  • Vitamin E protects artery walls and keeps the “bad” low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol from being oxidized.
  •  Vitamin E protects cells and DNA from damage that can turn cancerous
  • Vitamin E can be beneficial to people with diabetes. It enhances the action of insulin and improves blood glucose metabolism by reducing oxidative stress.
  • Many women report that vitamin E helps reduce hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause.

Where can you get vitamin E from… ? RIGHT IN YOUR DAILY DIET*

vitamin-e-foods

  • Leafy greens
  • Nuts! (peanuts, hazelnuts, & especially almonds) also seeds (sunflower seeds)
  • Paprika
  • Dried herbs
  • Dried apricots

Question(s):

How do you feel about trying different oils on your skin?
Do you believe in trying natural remedies?

Have a happy weekend!!!

Beauty in a jar.

So, I recently discovered coconut oil a few months back and fell in love with it. Yesterday I mentioned to my girl Christine that not only do I use it in the kitchen but also in the beauty department. I thought this would be a good time to debut coconut oil & all its amazing characteristics!

Miracle in a jar

Not only can you cook with it {add in to stir fry’s}
A great substitute for baking products { substitute butter+  vegetable oil with coconut oil as a healthier alternative}
Add into drinks i.e. warm tea {Boost metabolism}
It’s also great for your digestive track

BUT ALSO there are numerous beauty regimes that go along with it!

One that I personally do and have notice a difference is rubbing a small dab of the oil on my face at night-time, I believe that my skin is much more smooth & looking less scar free! Coconut oil is naturally moisturizing, antifungal and antibacterial. And also high in fat. <– THE GOOD KIND*.  A lot of people fear fat and the thought of eating it will make you fat. Not the case. Obviously if you over do anything that’s not good, but healthy fats is what helps your body heal and grow with the amount of nutrients & vitamins it provides.

Here are other cool beauty items you can do with it:

  • Use as a super conditioner for your hair. Apply to dry hair, then shampoo as normal.
  • Put some in a small container to use as lip balm.
  • Use it in place of shaving cream
  • Add a small amount to your bath water to create a moisturizing soak
  • Use as a make-up remover
  • Use around your eyes to help prevent wrinkles
  • Apply to stomach when pregnant to aid in preventing stretch marks
  • Brush on eyelashes to help strengthen them <– I’ve heard great things on this, I may need to try!
  • Use on pimple and acne to help heal it
  • Apply on cracked or rough heels
  • Mix with the spice nutmeg and apply to blemishes for 15 minutes. Wash off and notice a difference in your skin
