Happy Birthday POC! & Other marvels <3

Happy Monday! Hope you had an excellent weekend : )
First things first, since it is Monday and around here we like to share some marvelous things.. this first one is super marvelous..

Happy birthday/ blogiversary to this little blog of mine.
untitled (35)
I can honestly say this past year has been more amazing because of this blog. Something that I once thought would be a little outlet for myself, post once in awhile for friends & family became something much bigger, a love affair actually. The community I am in, the people I know and feel like I know in person { hi blends! ❤ } my creativity, baking & food palette have immensely grown and the fact that I can come here to share, spill and connect has been amazing. I can’t wait to see what happens with POC for the next year 🙂
Thanks for making this piece of my internet feel like home!

Some other marvels:

Friday night we attended a going away party for two of our friends, they are heading to the South.. I’m sure it’s really bittersweet for them- but I think they already have wait list for visitors! & no matter where they are, Crol can still read piece of cait 😉 ( Hi Carol! )
Photo: Yesterday was my last day of work and it was very emotional saying bye to all my work friends...but it was so nice being out with good friends later on!
Saturday was gorgeous out, too bad it only lasted one day. A walk in the park, trip to trader joes & fresh flowers.
Gifts from friends, ah I love my yogi tea!
Face masking + Netflix. Because, you just need to sometimes.
Since cass was sick last week and missed Florida- a belated birthday dinner on Sunday at Fire Birds.
{soup & salad deal}
Followed by, froyo : )
{good thing Oliver approved!}
I am linking up with Katie today to share on this marvelous Monday!

I gotta get moving, today & this week seem like they are going to be busy and taking on a few other projects for my intern, catch ya later ❤
What was the highlight of your weekend?

Happy first day of spring!
I think we’ve all been waiting for this day for awhile 🙂
Can’t wait for more :
sunlight, froyo, walks in the park, day trips, the winery, bridal showers, iced coffee, bird chirping mornings, no heavy jackets, bike rides, city days, plant our garden, picnics, visit the farmers market, rain storms, margaritas, windows down & good tunes, fresh berries, pretty flowers, and .. much more!

Some eats, drinks + FL recap :)

Happy hump day friends!
And just like that, our trip is done! By the time this post goes up, we will be en route to Philly and home! It’s been a really fun few days, really fun. But time to tackle a few things and get back to reality. womp womp.
We { George & I } left Saturday afternoon to the Philadelphia  air port. We were missing two things on the way. My sister and my bother-in-law we’re way to sick to attend the trip 😦 Having a fever, the chills is no joke. We were completely bummed but made the best of it! We stuck to the plan & headed to the sunshine state.
A little recap, eats, drinks + St. Patty’s Day!
** My phone sucks and is dying really easily = not as many pictures as I wished and few places were very dark! **
Saturday we landed around 6:30 pm, were picked up at the air port by Ellen, Seth & their adorable pup lucy! We made it just in time for diner and drinks! We headed to a place in Boca called, Rebel. Very cool atmosphere, the place was built like you were in a really funky garage. A very fun thing .. they placed popcorn on the table for munching!
We had tons of food: Unfortunately it was really dark in there and all the picture didn’t turn out. A few eats: Lettuce wraps, mussels, shrimp & grits, ahi tuna, pan seared foie gras. <– which I tried!
We left the place and found that we had a FLAT TIRE. Which was pretty funny because the 4 of us all trying to help each other was like a circus. None the less, we got it and also picked up pizza on the way home.
Sunday was a great beach day and actually the only long day we had there! But, most mornings before we started the day looked like this:
Starbucks, Greek yogurt, bagels + eggs, fruit.
Poor George got REALLY burnt and my one leg did,  ooops .. our winter skin fried within an  hour. After the beach Sunday,  it was time for dinner, a place we’ve been wanting to go back to since the last time I visited with my dad. Vic & Angelo’s in Del Ray.

Drinks to start of course, followed by appetizers of Caesar salad & grilled calamari. I am not the biggest seafood eater, but that calamari was cooked to perfection! Again, dark places = awful pictures. I ended up going with a grilled chicken dish with capers, olive oil, lemon + spaghetti squash. The night ended with a live band & dancing.

{They were the highlight of the night, best dancers}
St. Patty’s day on Monday was tons of fun. Jess joined us and our group hit the town. We went back to where we were the night before and hopped around to a few places. An Irish pub, sand bar joint where we played corn hole for a few hours + a oyster place to end the night. With in between a stop to the ice cream shop 🙂 NOW I’m obsessed with all things pistachio.
{car bombs}
The night ended pretty early, where we snacked on pistachios and turkey sandwiches. Proof, because Jess woke up with mustard on her arm 😉

once we woke up and were human again ;-), we headed to another part of FL for the day to spend the day at Jess’s house. We arrived in Melbourne around 1pm, after being a very stormy night, the sun finally poke out around the time we got there. We quickly changed and headed to the beach for a last visit.
While sitting on the beach, we discussed a few favorite meals. Bolognese was mentioned and it just clicked, Italian night on our last night and a night in sounded exactly what my body needed. After a light nap, showers we were ready to make and eat dinner. Ah, Bolognese is always a good choice.
Full stomachs, a room by the beach = the perfect sleep.
… And there you have it! Florida went by way to fast, wish we had a little more time to explore around town, but I must say we ate like kings! { and queens } I got to have a few favorites while trying some new things too.
Talk to you soon, NEXT STOP –> Philadelphia,
I’m linking up today with Jenn, over at peas and crayons to share some of the eats. This didn’t include the major snacking that went on 😉

T minus 1 day + {a few musts}

Happy Friday friends!
Hope you have an excellent weekend, anyone celebrating St. Patrick’s Day?! Oh, good times. We will be celebrating in Florida this year with some of our closest friends ❤ Can’t wait. PRAYING the weather is good!
Yesterday I felt pretty sick out of no where. We went to the mall and all of  sudden while walking around I just had to sit down and eat. It was kinda weird. I know a few peeps in Cassidy’s house are sick and I went there Wednesday to see Oli , so hopefully I didn’t catch anything.
This morning I have grand plans of a manicure, laundry & packing! So far I’ve only gotten small things packed. Now, time to squeeze some clothes into a carry on bag.. this should be interesting!
A few musts I am traveling with to Florida on the plane:
untitled (32)
1- Quest Bars! I hateeeeeee being hungry and having nothing. That’s why I love to have these on hand.
2- Hand sanitizer: Eeek, traveling = germs. Must always wash hands and sanitize.
3- Face Moisturizer with a light glow. I hate to wear a full face when traveling, just a dewy look will do just fine.
4- Face wash- Not only does traveling have germs but makes {me} feel dirty sometimes. After a flight, it’s nice to freshen up the face
5. Hair ties, because they break at the most inconvenient times.
6- Eos lip balm, always a must
7-Sunscreen. If your moisturize like mine above doesn’t have SPF in it, grab a small one. The sun will find you.
8- Books or magazine. I saw this beauty detox at the library. Remind me of crazy sexy diet. Just more information, healing with food, etc
9-Something sweet, we always need a little treat!
10- Small case for IDs, money, etc. Traveling is hectic and your always pulling things out, best to have them in a set place
If I don’t pop in, i’ll talk to you next week! 🙂 I’m sure I’ll be posting things on instagram 😉 <— So i’ll catch you there.
Have a great weekend ❤

When people comment on your food & habits

So happy its Thursday, cause I’ve got something on my mind. Its actually been on my mind awhile now, but up until the other Friday at work I kind have had it!

So, healthy living. For many, its a way of life!  Including me! Its no fad “diet” no quick fixes. Just eating healthy, whole some eats. Everyone has their own version of what healthy means to them and mine is more of a balance. As I like to say, I like to have my cake & eat it too.
I have made solid lifestyle changes to be a better person and feel awesome.

I promise I’ll be getting to the point. And sorry this may or may not make sense. But none the less its Thursday and Thursdays are for thinking out loud.

If you know me personally, you would know I am tall, lanky { thanks dad!! } working on building muscle { MUCH harder then I thought }, and have a love for sweets + a good sweat sesh.
Healthy life = good energy

… A few years ago I would go to the gym with a girlfriend of mine and then we would hit up the diner next door and each have our own peanut butter pies. NO SHAME. I love peanut butter pie, but after reading and researching for a few years,I kind of realized not the correct way to recover from a workout 😉 Maybe a snack platter of eggs, apples & nuts would be a good recovery meal and the peanut butter pie for my dessert! 😉

This brings me to F O O D. What we eat and how people actually judge you on this.

A little story for you:
So. Two Fridays ago, at work a guy in the kitchen passes a big meaty corn beef ruben sandwich across the way to another server. He made a joke about it and gave it to her to eat. While not offering me any, but made a remark  ” You don’t eat that kinda sh*t do you” UM WHAT? I stood there and literally blinked at him and wondered what the F he was taking about. Why wouldn’t I eat that sandwich? Would I eat it as my everyday lunch 365 days for lunch. No. Maybe someone else would, but I would eat it! Just like I do with other things.

Do I eat healthy, yes. I do my best to do “8/20” or probably more like 30% because I love sweets way to much ..Do my sister and get burgers & fries when we work together, ugh.. you bet ya!  Do I try samples of our desserts at work? DUH. So why would someone feel the need to remark that, to me. When clearly you don’t even know me.

I have no idea, but that comment just rubbed me the wrong way. I honestly was baffled and upset the rest of the night because it then proceeded  to make me question everything. . I am no way ashamed of living a healthy life style but for a split second this guy made me question myself. Healthy lifestyle has made me a lot more open to new foods { and thanks to George }, recipes, life & actually natural beauty { helping my skin clear up } <– FOOD IS MEDICINE. But it kind of made me feel BAD about myself !? Finally I am over it. This is my life, not his or anyone else’s.

A lot of other comments I’ve gotten & I think they are rude:
Do you count calories {NO}
Do you eat carbs .. { UM YES !!! }
Why don’t you drink beer? { HI, vodka girl! }
You don’t eat meat do you? { A FEW TIMES A WEEK!}

These questions are rare but sometimes I am hit with them and it makes me question people. I would never in a million years tell a woman whose on the heavier side how to eat. Maybe she can’t control the way her genes are. It’s almost like me hearing things of this nature. My sister also gets questioned because she’s just like me.
Eat whatever you want, and if anyone tries to lecture you about your weight, eat them too.
Then I saw this quote ^, true. And I will eat you. I eat ALOT. I eat ALOT of healthy things but I also eat ALOT of chocolate and sweets. So, shut it 🙂  and since then I’ve been a little more lax and eating more junk, Cause this guy got in my head- oh that cake from Sunday’s party is now showing on my face!

Does anyone else ever deal with these sorts of remarks? The one at work literally sent me over the edge.
